Leafs prospect Marner lights it up in Memorial Cup

RED DEER, ALTA. - The best line in major junior hockey has formally introduced itself to Red Deer.

That spectacular greeting has set up the London Knights for an interesting -- and potentially record-breaking -- Memorial Cup.

Mitch Marner racked up five points -- four of them on the first four goals of the tournament -- and the OHL champs exploded with a 6-2 Cup-opening victory over the host Rebels before 7,292 Friday at Enmax Centrium.

Red Deer controlled the opening 10 minutes of the game until Matthew Tkachuk, the Knights’ pesky poster poy, sucked Rebels star defenceman Haydn Fleury into a selfish penalty.
