As much as the Maple Leafs hope that goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo will provide depth in the organization, if not more, there’s no guarantee that he will.
Kaskisuo is not unlike any free agent who is available via the college route. They are hit and miss, and in the Leafs’ case, it has been commonly hit rather than miss.
The Leafs have signed more than a handful of these players in the not-so-distant past, whether it was John Ferguson, Cliff Fletcher (in his second go-around), Brian Burke or David Nonis occupying the seat of the general manager.
Now, it’s Lou Lamoriello at the plate, and perhaps he is keeping his fingers crossed that Kaskisuo, signed to a two-year deal on Monday, becomes something tangible in the Toronto net.
