The Maple Leafs have bolstered their goaltending from the West Coast, but it’s not the return of free agent James Reimer.
A long-rumoured interest in Frederik Andersen, a 6-foot-4, 26-year-old, came to fruition on Monday when Toronto traded the 30th pick in the NHL draft, which they acquired from Pittsburgh, and their own second rounder to the Anaheim Ducks.
Andersen was a third-round pick in 2012 after years of playing in his native Denmark and a year in Frolunda, Sweden. With a record of 20-5-0 in 2013-14, he set the stage to be the fastest to 26 wins in NHL history, then tied war-time era netminder Bill Durnan for the quickest to 50.
