The family of late NHLer Steve Montador is planning on suing the league after learning he was suffering from brain trauma, ESPN reported Tuesday.
According to the Canadian Sports Concussion Project, Montador’s autopsy showed the “widespread presence of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) throughout his brain.” CTE, a neurodegenerative brain condition, is believed to be caused by repeated concussions.
“The Montador family’s suspicions have been confirmed: Steve Montador’s 35-year-old brain was decaying due to the head hits he endured during his NHL career,” Chicago-based lawyer William Gibbs said in a statement. “CTE has afflicted yet another young athlete and his family.
