The ownership group trying to bring the first major sports franchise to Las Vegas has moved to the second phase of the application process to get approval for an NHL team.
The Las Vegas group announced Wednesday that the league has invited the Bill Foley-led team to participate in the second phase in applying for an expansion team. The first phase was the formal application which Foley's ownership group submitted on July 20, including an application fee of $10 million, $2 million of which was non-refundable.
"We are pleased to report that the NHL has invited us to participate in Phase II of the application process," the Vegas Wants Hockey statement said.
