PENTICTON, B.C. -- Jon Gillies is looking to be the Calgary Flames' goalie of the future.
The big netminder, drafted in 2012 and making his pro season debut, made quite a first impression at the Young Stars Classic tournament, backstopping the Flames to a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets prospects Friday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre to kick off the four-team event.
Gillies made 23 saves to defeat a highly touted Jets crew.
Bryce Van Brabant and Ryan Lomberg scored first-period goals to stake the Flames to a lead.
Morgan Klimchuk iced it with an empty-netter.
