BOSTON — The past couple of days have been a wee bit busy for Jyrki Jokipakka.
You know, with getting traded and all.
So you can certainly understand — and excuse — that the Calgary Flames’ blue-line acquisition hasn’t exactly had heaps of time to research his new hockey home.
“I don’t know much (about Calgary), but I think Finland won the first gold medal in the Olympics there,” Jokipakka said. “So that’s one thing.”
Indeed, Finnish ski-jumping legend Matti Nykanen was among the big newsmakers on the opening day of competition at the 1988 Winter Games, soaring to the first of three gold medals he would collect during a historic week at Canada Olympic Park.
