Joe Colborne signs with the Avalanche

Entering the free agency period, it was apparent that the Flames would have to sacrifice some of their players. Between the new contracts and players brought in, and the resigning of established Flames such as Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, some players would have to leave Calgary to make enough cap space.

Colborne signed a 2yr/$5M deal with the Colorado Avalanche today as free agency opened. Colborne had not received a qualifying offer from the Flames meaning that Calgary gets no compensation for him leaving.

Colborne had a career high 44 points last season however the signing of Troy Brouwer made him expendable today.
