Islanders take series with Tavares OT goal

BROOKLYN - They’ve waited more than two decades to win a playoff series, so a nail-chewing nerve-wracking overtime certainly didn’t seem to be a big deal.

But on this night, it certainly was for the New York Islanders.

A memorable night. A historic night. A night when 23 excruciating years of heartbreak for the fans of this beleaguered franchise were wiped out by one goal.

One John Tavares goal,

The most famous goal in team history since David Volek scored at 5:16 of overtime in Game 7 of a second round series against Pittsburgh on May 14, 1993, eliminating Mario Lemieux’s Penguins in the process.
