Islanders force Game 7 with last stand at Coliseum

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — If this was the final act in the hockey history of the antiquated Nassau Coliseum, give the New York Islanders credit for not going down without a fight.

With the franchise moving to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn for the 2015-16 season, the old barn provided the stage for one of the most electric and entertaining examples of the sport you’ll ever see Saturday afternoon, culminating in a 3-1 Islanders win in front of one of the loudest crowds in the league.

The victory allowed the Islanders to tie the best-of-seven first round series at 3-3, with Game 7 coming Monday night at the Verizon Centre in Washington.
