Islanders D Hamonic out indefinitely

Defenseman Travis Hamonic is out indefinitely and his status for any portion of the New York Islanders first-round playoff series with the Washington Capitals is uncertain.

The team said Tuesday his injury is "undisclosed," but Hamonic will not be easily replaced if he misses significant time.

The 24-year-old had 33 points in 71 games this season.

He was injured Friday on a hip check from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi.

Calvin de Haan would be first in line to fill Hamonic's role in the lineup and defensemen Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk could see extended ice time.
