One day after being released from his professional tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Curtis Glencross was running errands near his Calgary home when the phone rang.
Another tryout offer had come in.
This time, it came from a familiar voice.
“(Colorado Avalanche coach) Patrick Roy was straight up with me (Monday),” said the 32-year-old free agent who was shocked to go the whole summer without a concrete offer to sign.
“In the summer, when I really thought we were going to get a deal done with Colorado, he said ‘I see you as a guy who plays with (Matt) Duchene and (Jarome) Iggy (Iginla).
