Enough fans thought Rogie Vachon was already in the Hockey Hall of Fame upon meeting him that the aging goalie must have wondered if he should bother correcting them.
But Vachon let others do the talking for him at the selection committee level and, at age 71, the honour has finally been bestowed upon the Stanley Cup/Canada Cup winner, who stands in the top 20 of career NHL netminding victories.
“After a while, you sort of don’t wait anymore. Because I didn’t think, probably, I will ever make it,” Vachon said. “Certain things in life you can’t control and that was one of them.
