Giordano inks six-year contract extension with Flames

The Calgary Flames and captain Mark Giordano have agreed to a six-year contract extension with a reported average salary of US$6.75 million.

Giordano, who's coming off a couple of breakthrough seasons since becoming the team captain, had one more campaign remaining on his current deal.

He is coming off a season in which he collected 11 goals and 48 points in 61 games before suffering a torn biceps tendon, which required season-ending surgery. He was also named to the All-star game.

Giordano, who turns 32 in October, has played his entire NHL career with Calgary, acquired after going undrafted out of the junior ranks.
