The arena deal the Calgary Flames are no longer pursuing took on a telling 'He said, Nenshi said' dynamic on Friday.
Shortly after Mayor Naheed Nenshi unveiled the city’s proposal to pay one-third of the $555-million price tag for a rink next to the Saddledome, Flames president Ken King explained the offer is nothing more than a loan.
“Their proposal not only has us paying for everything but more when you consider incremental taxes,” said King, reminding a packed Saddledome media lounge the proposed $185 million from the Flames owners and the $185 million in ticket surcharges would both come from Flames revenues.
