Former NHL enforcer Todd Ewen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Sun has learned.
Confirmed Sunday evening by St. Louis County police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schellman, investigators have ruled the 49-year-old Stanley Cup champion’s death a suicide.
A CTV report claimed family in Calgary said Ewen had battled depression.
Calling the St. Louis suburb of Wildwood home since his 1997 retirement from the NHL, Ewen was heavily involved in coaching several area minor and amateur hockey teams.
