Since being fired by the Calgary Flames Bob Hartley has been offered a coaching gig in Switzerland and two others in the KHL.
However, none offered him the sort of freedom the Latvian Hockey Federation presented him with as part of a deal to coach its national team at this spring’s world championship.
“Obviously I’m a loyal man and whatever I can do for the Latvian team and organization I will,” said Hartley from his home just outside Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“But my priority is to get back to the NHL. One part they gave me is an out for an NHL team.
