After absorbing the devastating blow delivered by Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving on Tuesday, Bob Hartley boarded a plane bound for his holiday home in Florida.
No stops in Minnesota. No layovers in Anaheim. No side trip to Ottawa.
Because while the National Hockey League coaching job market is wide-open and the former Flames boss is anxious to land on his skates somewhere soon, the wounds are still fresh.
Hartley, Calgary’s whistle-blower for the past four seasons, was in no mood to reveal his future plans.
“Obviously, right now, the coaching carousel is spinning out of control,” he said on Wednesday’s conference call, speaking for the first time publicly (in English and in French) since being relieved of his duties.
