Flames put up fight but fall to Islanders in OT

With a head full of hockey hair, Matt Martin stepped onto enemy territory and was ready to rumble.

As the National Hockey League leader in hits (with 277 prior to Thursday’s contest), the New York Islanders winger clearly had a mission on Thursday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The only thing?

The Calgary Flames were tired of being pushed around following a pair of losses to two tough outfits, the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings.

But despite three tussles during the game — and two between Martin and resident tough guy Brandon Bollig — plus another spectacular performance from Joni Ortio, the home team went down swinging in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Islanders.
