The Flames announced this afternoon that they have come to an agreement on a contract extension with newly acquired defenceman MacKenzie Weegar. The deal will keep the Ottawa native in Calgary for eight years at a solid $6.25 million per season. Calgary and Weegar had been talking extensions for a bit now and it was reported that the player wasn't open to negotiating during the season (which is common for many reasons) and wanted to finish a contract extension up before the season. Well, that certainly happened today, meaning the two big pieces (Jonathan Huberdeau) from the Matthew Tkachuk trade are now locked up long term in Calgary.
