BOSTON — The wait is over for Calgary Flames defenceman Jakub Nakladal. At 28 and now in his ninth professional campaign, he finally scored his first NHL goal.
The wait is still on for Flames puck-stopper Joni Ortio. With 407 days (and counting) since his last big-league victory, he may be wondering if he’ll ever notch another win at hockey’s highest level.
Nakladal’s first career counter was the highlight for the Flames in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
Ortio made 23 stops, but Patrice Bergeron’s power-play tally — the out-of-towners had been dinged for too-many-men — with less than four minutes remaining in regulation proved to be the difference.
