Twenty games.
That’s the verdict for Calgary Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman, who was slapped Wednesday with one of the longest suspensions in NHL history as punishment for his blindsided bowling-over of linesman Don Henderson last week.
Wideman does have an option to appeal the 20-game ban, although it's not yet known if he will go that route. The Flames have yet to comment on the suspension.
The incident occurred during the second period of the Flames’ home loss to the Nashville Predators last Wednesday.
Wideman had just been cranked in his own zone by Predators forward Miikka Salomaki and was en route back to Calgary’s bench.
