Conroy was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the sixth round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft after playing at Clarkson University. He would only play two seasons in Montreal before leaving to play for the St. Louis Blues. That was another short trip for Conroy as he would be traded to the Flames in 2000-01 after playing 359 in St.
