A Gretzky helped make the Edmonton Oilers great once before, and general manager Peter Chiarelli thinks it can happen again.
While new assistant GM Keith Gretzky won’t be able to make the same kind of impact that Wayne once did (who can?), Chiarelli believes he can make a difference.
In hiring the Director of Amateur Scouting away from the Boston Bruins, Chiarelli says he is not only adding talent but someone with a deep-seated emotional investment that stems back to his childhood.
“He has ties to the Oilers, his family has a long history with the club, and he wants to see it return to its former greatness,” said Chiarelli, who worked with Gretzky for five seasons in Boston.
