FORT SASKATCHEWAN - To defenceman Ethan Cap, the Western Hockey League’s bantam draft no longer matters.
The Edmonton Oil Kings prospect knows being a high first-round selection comes with expectations, but it’s not about where he went (11th overall) it’s where he’s going in his first year of WHL eligibility.
“Once you get past a few months after the draft, it kind of wears off,” Cap said. “It becomes a number. The first few days after the draft, you think there are going to be some pretty lofty expectations, but after a while, nobody cares. It’s about how you’re performing on the ice, so I don’t think there are too many expectations going into this season.
