Edmonton Eskimos ink high-profile free agent SB Chris Getzlaf

It’s official: Getzlaf is coming to Edmonton.

While those words seem too good to be true for hockey fans in the city who can’t help but conjure up images of Anaheim Ducks star Ryan Getzlaf, it’s his pigskin-playing big brother, Chris, who has joined the Edmonton Eskimos, the club announced Thursday.

The 33-year-old free agent spent the majority of his eight-year CFL career with his hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders after being drafted 33rd overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2007.

Word that the Eskimos signed the high-profile Canadian free agent appeared on the Edmonton Sun and Journal websites one day ahead of Thursday’s official announcement.
