Coyotes pursue restraining order against Glendale

The Arizona Coyotes filed a lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court against the Glendale (Ariz.) City Council and other city officials on Friday.

The Coyotes are pursuing a restraining order to keep the city of Glendale from dissolving its arena lease agreement with the team. The team called the city's actions an improper attempt to void a 15-year agreement to play its games in Gila River Arena.

There is also a possibility that the Coyotes could seek injunctive relief and file for damages.

On Wednesday night, the Glendale City Council voted 5-2 to dissolve a $225 million lease agreement that was signed in 2013 after IceArizona bought the Coyotes from the NHL.
