Meaghan Mikkelson clearly has incredible pain tolerance, given that she played the gold-medal game at the Sochi Olympics with a broken hand.
But the Canadian women’s team defender experienced a new level of physical torment — in the form of labour — leading up to the birth of her first child at 12:13 p.m. Sunday at Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre.
“A nice, long 42 hours,” Mikkelson quipped via Periscope on Monday morning. “We had a good time.”
With the help of Twitter, Mikkelson and her husband Scott Reid named the young rookie, who roared into the world at eight pounds, seven ounces and 21-inches long.
