It appears Hockey Canada will turn to its Golden Boy of International Hockey to lead its entry at next year’s World Cup of Hockey.
After coaching his country to Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014, Mike Babcock certainly has the near-flawless credentials to guide Team Canada at the eight-team tournament, which is slated to take place next September at the Air Canada Centre.
And it looks as if that’s more than enough to convince those in charge of Team Canada.
With reports Tuesday morning indicating Babcock’s imminent appointment, sources confirmed to the Toronto Sun that the Maple Leafs coach will be named the bench boss of Team Canada later this week, with a press conference potentially coming Thursday at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto.
