Literally and figuratively, Claire Sumner is following in the family footsteps.
The Vancouver-born runner who calls Calgary home is making quite a name for herself on the cross country circuit while at Queen's University, both nationally and internationally.
"They inspired me greatly in running,'' Sumner said of her mom, Kate, and aunt, Alison, who both represented Canada at the world cross country championships, with Alison winning a silver medal in 1983 in England.
"I did play hockey for a long period of time growing up," said Sumner, whose father played football at Queen's. "But running was always a sport I was interested in because of my mom and my aunt.
