In the weeks leading up to the Mac’s Midget Tournament, the Calgary Royals weren’t catching many breaks.
They weren’t a bad team by any means, but the first 24 games of the AMHL season had left the Royals with a 10-10-4 record. Playing .500 hockey keeps you in contention, but at some point the Royals were going to need to start stringing together win streaks.
Games like Wednesday’s matchup with the Regina Pat Canadians might help.
Sure, the Royals fell 3-1 and narrowly missed a wild-card playoff spot, but the Calgary team held its own against one of the midget tournament’s powerhouses and came within 20 minutes of upsetting the Pats.
