Usually, all eyes are on the first-round pick.
This fall, there isn’t one.
The Calgary Hitmen traded their top pick in the 2014 draft to the Portland Winterhawks for the rights to Adam Tambellini – a deal that worked out just fine for the local WHL club.
But it also means there is no first-rounder showing up at this year’s rookie camp, which kicks off Friday morning at the Don Hartman N.E. Sportsplex.
By default, that role will be filled by second-round pick (41st overall) Mark Kastelic.
The big forward said, despite being the highest-drafted freshman at camp, he won’t be feeling any extra pressure.
