The night Brent Sutter was almost choked out by a linesman in a line brawl was certainly memorable.
But none of his memories of the ol’ Corral match the night he made his NHL debut with the legendary New York Islanders.
As an 18-year-old averaging almost a goal-and-a-half a game with the Lethbridge Broncos, Sutter was summoned on an emergency basis by the Islanders for a three-game western swing opening against the Flames.
Twin brothers Richie and Ron, who happened to be his WHL teammates, drove Sutter to the rink where he’d lace em up in the tight quarters of the sunken dressing rooms alongside Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies and Denis Potvin.
