TJ Brodie made the highlight reels for all the wrong reasons in Wednesday’s season opener when Connor McDavid blew past him, skating over 40 kilometres per hour and scored a jaw-dropping goal on Mike Smith.
On Saturday, it was the Calgary Flames defender’s turn to earn the headlines.
Brodie was the architect of an amazing Johnny Gaudreau second-period strike in a crucial part of their 6-3 home-opening victory over the Winnipeg Jets. The 27-year-old blueliner smartly faked a slapshot and dangled around a stunned Mathieu Perreault before feeding the puck cross-ice to Gaudreau. Gaudreau, of course, sailed a shot past Jets netminder Steve Mason and potted his first of the 2017-18 season.
