Calgary Flames on pace to finish with worst-ever season as franchise

The worst non-lockout/strike shortened NHL season in Calgary Flames history came in 1997-98.

That year’s Flames team — led by Theoren Fleury on the ice and with Brian Sutter behind the bench — managed just 67 points in an 82-game campaign.

This year’s struggling and sputtering squad with its horrific 3-9-1 record is on pace for a 44-point season.

Want to know how bad it is right now for the Flames? During the teardown 2012-13 campaign in which Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester were traded away, the club collected 42 points in only 48 games.

“We’re not proud of what we’re doing right now,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley said after gathering the troops Wednesday at the Saddledome.
