Calgary Flames' Joe Colborne now on first-unit powerplay

Since last week’s trade of Jiri Hudler to the Florida Panthers, Joe Colborne has been promoted to the Calgary Flames’ first power-play unit.

Which, for the six-foot-five, 221-pounder, is an easy gig: parking his chassis in front of the net.

But when facing a hot goalie — like the Flames did on Monday night when squaring off against San Jose’s Martin Jones — re-directs, screens, and deflections on the man advantage aren’t always gift-wrapped.

“The most frustrating time, especially on the power-play, is when you’re not getting any chances at all,” Colborne was saying on Tuesday morning at the Scotiabank Saddledome, less than 24 hours after Monday’s 2-1 overtime loss.
