The shot was no different than the hundreds taken every practice.
Even after Mason Raymond released it, he thought nothing of his offering towards Karri Ramo in Sunday’s Calgary Flames session at the Saddledome.
“I knew I hit him but I turned and skated out of the zone before I realized he stayed down. I’ve got to go check on him,” Raymond said upon making his way into the dressing room.
Late in the skate, Ramo, who’s become the workhorse netminder for the Flames this season, took the puck in the neck/throat area. He was down on all fours for an extended period — which sent the athletic therapists racing onto the ice — and went straight to the dressing room after getting to his feet.
