Tyler Wotherspoon is returning to the Calgary Flames fold for another season.
The National Hockey League club announced Monday it has signed the 23-year-old defenceman to a one-year, two-way contract. No salary terms were disclosed.
The Surrey, B.C., native — a second-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft — has recorded five assists in 26 games with the Flames over the past three seasons, also toiling for 162 games in the American Hockey League with team affiliates in Adirondack and Stockton.
He logged 11 games with the Flames last season after being recalled in mid-February from Stockton on an emergency basis with injuries to Deryk Engelland, Kris Russell and Ladislav Smid, along with Dennis Wideman’s suspension, wreaking havoc on the blue-line.
