Tod Button didn’t officially say it.
But given the implications of Wednesday’s Game 7 between the St. Louis Blues and the Dallas Stars, you can guess who the Calgary Flames’ head scout is cheering for.
In a trade deadline package earlier in the season that saw shot-blocking defender Kris Russell off to the Big ’D’ for Jyrki Jokipakka and prospect Brett Pollock, the Flames also received a conditional second-round pick in this summer’s National Hockey League draft.
And those conditions — that the pick would be upgraded to Dallas’ first-round selection if the Stars advance to the Western Conference final and that Russell has suited up for at least half of their post-season contests — are less than 24 hours away from being ironed out.
