Brian Elliott outstanding as Flames upend Flyers

They say your goaltender needs to be your best penalty-killer.

On this night, Brian Elliott was exactly that.

He was superb at even-strength, too, and his buddies ensured he was rewarded for it as the Calgary Flames scratched out Wednesday’s 3-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Saddledome.

Elliott delivered 33 saves in a dandy performance and should be enjoying a complimentary meal or two courtesy of right-winger Alex Chiasson, whose boneheaded spearing major — he jabbed Nick Cousins in the gut after a whistle — in the opening stanza could have proved much more costly.
