ST. LOUIS — During a first-period stoppage, the crowd showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
A couple hours later, they filed out quietly.
Calgary Flames netminder Brian Elliott must have enjoyed the sound of both.
Elliott, who backstopped the Blues for the past five seasons, was sharp Tuesday in his return to his old stomping grounds and his new buddies ensured he received enough support as the Flames notched a 4-1 victory against the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.
Defencemen Dennis Wideman and Deryk Engelland, centre Sam Bennett and winger Johnny Gaudreau each tickled twine and Elliott delivered 23 saves as the Flames capped a two-games-in-two-nights roadie with a second consecutive triumph and improved to 3-4-1 on the season.
