Breaking down how much each Canadian NHL team improved

Woe Canada.

Last season was awful for Canada's seven NHL teams: Toronto was the worst in the East, Edmonton was the worst team in the West, and not a single club located north of the border made the playoffs for the first time since 1970.

The good news is that, by finishing at the bottom, Canadian teams had the best draft picks, which should help reverse their fortunes.

Will it happen this season? Maybe not. But things can’t get worse, can they?

Here's a look at how each Canadian team improved over the summer:

CALGARY FLAMES

2015-16 record: 35-40-7, fifth in the Pacific Division

What went wrong: Goaltending.
