The Brandon Wheat Kings and Kelowna Rockets were the class of the WHL all season long.
On Tuesday, the two league finalists — their championship series is set to kick off Friday in Brandon — made their mark on the WHL’s end-of-season awards banquet, with the Rockets taking home two awards and the Wheaties laying claim to two of their own.
Wheat Kings rookie of the year Nolan Patrick was quick to defer any praise to his veteran teammates, including Calgary’s own Morgan Klimchuk.
“I can’t take all the credit, I played with some of the top players in the league this year,” said the 17-year-old, who finished the regular season with 30 goals and 56 points.
