Blue Jackets sign Brandon Saad to six-year contract

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed left winger Brandon Saad on Friday to a six-year contract through the 2020-21 NHL season.

Terms were not disclosed, but Sportsnet reported the deal carries an average annual value of $6 million.

Saad was acquired by Columbus from the Chicago Blackhawks along with center Alex Broadhurst and defenseman Michael Paliotta in a seven-player trade Tuesday. The Blackhawks received forwards Artem Anisimov, Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin and Corey Tropp and a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Saad, 22, has posted 126 points (52 goals, 74 assists) and 44 penalty minutes along with a plus-44 rating in 208 career NHL regular-season games.
