Stan Mikita has no idea the Chicago Blackhawks are playing in their third Stanley Cup final over the last six seasons.
The 75-year-old Blackhawks legend has been dealing with a sharp decline in his memory after being diagnosed with a brain disorder called Lewy body that can also cause hallucinations, sleep disorders and Parkinson’s disease.
“His mind is completely gone,” Jill Mikita, Stan’s wife of 52 years, told the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t like to use that term, but there’s no other way to describe it.”
Still employed as a Blackhawks ambassador, Mikita has been living day and night in a Chicago-area facility since January.
