The Calgary Hitmen have been playing the role of Monty Python’s Black Knight.
Lose two key forwards with ankle injuries? No problem.
Have another one suspended for a hit to the head? Bring it on.
But Wednesday’s 8-3 loss in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final at the Saddledome was far more than “just a flesh wound.”
It was a savage blow that has left the Hitmen on life support.
But, just like the determined Black Knight, captain Kenton Helgesen won’t lay down the sword against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
“We’ve gone through it before,” the Hitmen leader said of the adversity his team faces.
