TORONTO - So much for the notion that Jonathan Bernier’s feel-good stint with the Marlies would pay off with a few consecutive starts for the Maple Leafs.
After watching Bernier’s first game back on Tuesday, when he deserved some, but not all of the blame for the collapse in a 5-4 overtime loss to Tampa Bay, the coach is going back to rookie Garret Sparks Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.
With James Reimer slowly overcoming a groin injury in solo sessions, though still days away from being available, Babcock showed his level of frustration with Bernier’s inconsistency by changing keepers.
