Avalanche defenceman Erik Johnson breaks fibula blocking shot

It was bad news for the Colorado Avalanche on two fronts Saturday night.

The Avs were shut out by the Dallas Stars 3-0, and they also lost defenceman Erik Johnson to injury.

During the second period, the Stars had the man-advantage when forward Tyler Seguin took a slapshot from the point that was blocked by Johnson's right leg. He immediately fell down to the ice in pain.

Following the game, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar announced Johnson broke his fibula and will be out for six-to-eight weeks.

The Avalanche have struggled to begin the season, and currently sit at the bottom of the entire league with 19 points in 23 games.
