Now that Taylor Hall’s been traded to New Jersey Devils, it’s time to retire No. 4.
Put it up in the rafters at Rogers Place. Be the first number going up in the new building.
It’s always been unseemly that Kevin Lowe’s number is not retired. He was the first player the Oilers ever drafted in 1979. He scored their first-ever NHL goal. He played more games than any other Oiler. He won five Stanley Cups here.
And the No. 4 still isn’t hanging alongside Gretzky and Messier, Coffey and Kurri. Fuhr and Anderson. Glen Sather, Al Hamilton, Rod Phillips.
