Some last thoughts and observations from the 99th Memorial Cup, won by the host Windsor Spitfires in a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Ontario Hockey League champion Erie Otters on Sunday night at the WFCU Centre:
- The fact that the Memorial Cup can be handed to the captain of a team that didn’t win a playoff series doesn’t sit well with some, and lessens the value of the trophy for others. Be thankful that it’s not quite a recurring problem — the Spits became the first host team to lose in the first round of the playoffs and then win the Cup.
